“With 14 dancers, a singer, original music by Spaniard Daniel Yagüe, period costumes, the great themes Bizet composed for the play and exact paragraphs from the book, this staging of Mérimée’s Carmen reviews in 13 scenes the story of the romance between Don José and Carmen. Juan Manuel Prieto and Carlos Fajardo have created their own version of Carmencita’s story through the language of dance as a guiding mechanism where the recreation of mythical scenes from the play, the photographic care of each scene, the lighting support that exposes the sentimentality of each number, the folk and flamenco dances and the beautiful costumes invite the spectator to enter a naturalistic setting.”
“The most interesting aspect of the proposal is, for my taste, its unpretentious attempt to bring together different artistic conceptions. the work aims to bring the spectator closer to the reality of the novel by using dance and performance as the language and thread running through the work, a task that its director Carlos Fajardo has courageously accomplished.
Some of the highlights of the stage conflict are: choreographed duels with swords and knives, a beautifully choreographed presentation of the port of Gibraltar with fishing nets, ropes and maritime elements, and a masterful interpretation of a few sevillanas sung live…”.
“DSYR, which appeared to choreography by Juan Manuel Prieto, adds a commitment to human art with the best dance work I’ve seen this year. Prieto’s behind-the-scenes images and spatio-temporal perception of the change in space and the integrity of the mathematical equation that solved the shot point, explain why the flow of the show has a spectacular effect on people. Georges Bizet, Daniel Yagüe, Jose Nieto, Juan Amaya, Jose Galvan, Ramon Perello and Rödenas as well as touching all the subtleties of the human body, music was the main point of the show.”
